Directions
1. Make your way to the start
of cycle path just back from the
main B4534 and walk along the track
in the direction of Swindon Station,
Avebury and Chiseldon (sign posted)
Stay on this path passing under
several bridges until you reach
the Shaw Forest Park board and entrance
on the right.
2. Take the footpath up the hill
into Shaw Forest Park and follow
the gravel path as it bears around
to the left and up the hill into
the wood.
Stay on path as it winds round
up the hill through the trees and
at the top of the hill go left
where the path splits.
The path will take you past a
flat grass events area before bearing
left. Stay on the path don't take
any of the paths off to your right
at all and you will eventually leave
the park past a big dark glass building
to a subway under the main road
(put dogs on the lead along this
section).
3. Turn right and walk under
the subway. Almost immediately take
the gravel path on the right up
the slope. Then walk along the tarmac
path past the children's play area
to the main road "Cartwright
Drive".
4. At the main road turn right
and walk along the road to the traffic
lights in front of the school.
5. Just before the school turn
right and walk along the tarmac
cycle path.
6. A few yards before the footbridge
over the stream and the subway beyond
turn right and walk along the path.
7. The path brings you out at
traffic lights and a roundabout
- cross over the road, turn left
and then right into Peatmore Lagoon
and cross over the wooden footbridge
(dogs on the lead until you are
away from the main road)
8. Turn right when the paths
cross to take you round the north
side of the lake.
Stay on the path all the way
around the lake passing the pub
and the Chinese restaurant and then
go through the under pass.
9. Continue along cycle path
as it takes you round the edge of
the houses on your left and the
stream on your right.
10. When the path splits bear
right and go over the footbridge
and the after a few yards turn right
onto the gravel track.
11. At the end of the track turn
left back onto the rail path. Walk
under the bridge back along the
rail path to the start of the walk.
