Tara's Tale!

This is a proper trail, we love it and think it's great fun, but you need to be a little adventurous and be prepared to get a little muddy in wet weather as you feel your way through the wood off the beaten track. You stay totally within the wood on this one but there are no sign posts, well only one and paths are not always clear so you'll need to trust your instincts and follow the trail instructions.  Webbs wood has a couple properly made gravel tracks through the centre so you if you get lost just find your way back to the car park along them. Your dogs will love running through the wood jumping over fallen branches and into the stream no doubt. - give it go we dare you!!!

Start Point

Park Car at entrance to wood 0.5 miles (approx) after Callow Hill crossroads. Take the unmade drive to Webb's Wood. There is a new barn on the left side after you turn. Park up just before the Forest Enterprise entrance
(see map)

Directions

1. Leave the main car park and enter Webbs Wood by the Forest Enterprise sign and walk along the gravel track.

2. At the top of the incline turn right where the footpaths cross.

Continue along the path as it takes you into the wood.

Keep on this bearing and be aware that after about 50 yards it appears that the path bears left because of the long avenue of trees. Don't take this path but continue straight ahead and soon footpath gently descends as you walk

3. Continue straight ahead at the bridle way crossroad keeping the wire fence on your left

4. Cross over the wooden footbridge at the bottom of the hill and after a few paces turn left along the footpath

Continue along the path following the contour of the stream on you left.

5. As you meet a wide muddy track turn left and over a metal bridge (covered in mud)

6. At the gravel path continue straight ahead (don't turn left) and ahead into the wood again.

The path at the start of the section may be hard to see and muddy but once in the wood a bit further amongst the pine trees it improves. The path may be unclear at times but continue straight ahead until you meet a wooden bridge on your left side.

7. Cross the wooden bridge and continue ahead.

8. Turn right when you meet the next gravel path and straight ahead as it that takes you back into the wood

Continue forward for about 10 mins along the bridle way

9. Turn left at the end of the bridle way just before it leaves the wood

The path here may not immediately be visible but if you continue forward keeping close to the fence on your right and the path will soon become clear.

10. The path runs out in the north east corner of the wood just as you meet a light duty wire fence marking the boundaries of Webbs Wood and Woodland Farm.  Don't go through the wire fence but instead turn left and continue walking forward as close to the wire fence line on your right as possible

Once again the path at the start of this section is unclear and you will probably see fallen branches and trees on your route ahead so make your way head with the fence to your right and after the initial stages the path does get better so don't give up

11. After a while you will see a wooden gate leading from the field into the wood.  Continue ahead but you will need to move out further from the edge but still keeping parallel to the fence and field. The path does bear off to the left but don't take it. Continue straight ahead and as you look right you will be able to see the fields through the trees and you will soon pick up the path again.

12. Continue making your way through the wood until you eventually meet a wider path across your route and you can no longer continue ahead. Looking right you will notice a small gate leading into to a private wood, but turn left and walk forward along the straight path ahead.

13. At the gravel track turn right and continue ahead and the path will lead you back to the car park.
