Tara's Tale!

It's great to add a trail around Wanborough. This is one of those walks that you can pause to admire the view and praise yourself on your achievement as you get the chance to at the top of the hill to look over almost the entire trail.  Part of this walk is along a "permissive footpath" linking up with public footpaths, bridleways and the Graham Manners Community Woodland. There are several stiles but they are generally dog friendly.

Start Point

Bridleway at the bottom of Kite Hill  on the corner with Rotten-Row. Park in the Lay by.
(see map)

Directions

1. From the lay by walk along the Bridleway.

Note: The start of the track may be muddy but you very quickly pass this section.  An ash path is currently being created.  If the Bridleway is impassable then start the walk by taking the footpath on the left and then immediately turn right and walk along the path to the gate on the left which brings you out on to the bridleway further down the track.

2. Just before the path comes to a road, turn right, cross footbridge and continue straight ahead.

3. Walk through the first gap in the hedgerow. Continue ahead until you are level with the gate then turn right and continue ahead.

4. Turn left at the electricity pylon. Follow the electricity cables a short way. Then follow the path as it bears off to the right and then through the trees to a wooden footbridge.

5. Cross the footbridge which brings you to a small pond and into a sports field. Dogs will take a dip no doubt. Walk past the pond and continue straight ahead to the bottom of the field passing two more footbridges on your right.

6. Make your way through the trees straight ahead. As you cross through the hedgerow bear left and walk towards the wooden gate.

7. Cross the Bridleway by going through the two gates either side and head staight across the meadow and through the trees continuing in a straight direction all the way to the hedge/tree line and a stile.

8. Cross the stile and continue straight ahead crossing a narrow field and then over the next stile.

9. Turn left and walk around the edge of the field turning right twice.

10. Just before the farm buildings go through the metal gate and cross the horse paddock via the stiles.

11. Turn right and walk towards the farm. In the corner of the field turn left and after 50 yards cross the wooden footbridge on your right.

12. The footpath continues straight across the field just to the left of the electricity pilon (3rd from the right)

13. When you reach the footpath sign and the road turn left. Stay in the field and walk around the edge keeping the road on your right. Turn left at the corner of the field and continue ahead.

14. Cross over the footbridge into the next field and continue straight ahead.

15. Cross over the next footbridge again (by the footpath sign) and continue up the hill.

16. At the top of the hill just past the Wanborough village sign leave the field by the metal gate and continue up the hill on the road for a short way.

17. By the small 30 MPH speed limit sign turn left, cross the stile and along the footpath between the houses and walk down the hill to the bottom right corner.

18. Cross over the stile and wooden bridge and turning right walk to the corner of the field.

19. In the corner of the field cross the stile and turn left. Cross over the next stile in the corner and follow the footpath through the trees.

20. Stay on the footpath towards the red brick houses keeping the trees to your left to bring you back to the start of the walk.
