A very peaceful walk which takes
you along a stretch of the Rideway and
a visit to the historic Wayland's Smithy.
Dogs should be OK off the lead
most of the walk and in Spring enjoy
a lovely Bluebell wood
|
Fantastic views but you have to
work for them by climbing a couple
of steepish hills. About a third of
the trail is across fields with cows
so only attempt it if you and your dog
can handle them - you have been warned

Barbury
Castle Country Park
a designated area
of outstanding natural
beauty. Enjoy unspoilt
views across the Marlborough
downs then take a short
walk along the Old Ridge
Way
before crossing a corn
field to join the Millennium
Trail taking you up
Burderop Hill and back
home.
|
A pleasant short walk starting from the outskirts
of Hodson village taking
you through the Burderop
Estate. Much of the
walk is amongst the trees of Oaken Ground
Copse and Pinkcombe Wood.

This trail scores well for being
off the beaten track, lots of wildlife
to see including deer and splendid views.
On the other hand there are a few cattle
in the first field only, and some of
the paths are across ploughed fields
making them uneven.
|
I love this walk, along the canal and through
the meadow fields. Choice of two routes
and if you take the longer one there
are some great views on top of Brynard's
Hill - take a picnic on a nice day.
The meadows can be quite long but when
we did this trail in July most of the
grass had been cut for the making of
hay
