Tara's Tale!

A nice walk around the villages of Netheravon, Haxton and Fittleton. There are some road sections but when we walked them they were very quiet. There are plenty of opportunities to be let of the lead for  a run about.  Whilst the walk passes the River Avon there is very little opportunity for dogs to go for a swim, drink or cool off so take water on a hot day.  One of the fields had cows in it when we walked it but it is possible to make a short detour to avoid them if you want to.

These directions were written after we walked this route in June 2009, we have not been back to verify they are correct and therefore may contain errors.  If you walk this route using these directions, please write to us to let us know if there are any mistakes

Park in Netheravon village near to the village shop, then walk down high street towards the church and the benches around the tree in the middle of the road.

Turn right here and continued past the garage to the T junction. Cross over the busy road and turned left then immediately right and walk along the lane which was very quite when we walked it, only one car passed us.

By the MOD warning signs turn right and walk up the byway passing a steel barn on the right and then along the grass track. Part way along the track is closed to vehicles but continue along this section until you reach a track near a busy road.

Cross over the road (A345) and walk down Mill Lane. Just after Whitmarsh Close cross over the road and take the footpath sign posted to "Fifield".passing the River Avon on your right.

At the end of the track take the path to the right of the gates to the private fishing lake. Continue along the path and eventually join a grass wide track through the field. This isn't the official footpath but the public footpath doesn't seem to being maintained.

When you get to the concrete track turn left then next right and continue along the path passing two large metal sheds to reach a lane by "Woodmins Cottage". Turn right onto the lane and pass another large white thatched cottage then join the footpath at the end of the lane.

Cross over the River Avon then after a few yards turn right and take the footpath sign posted to "Fittleton"crossing a track before you reach another road.

Cross straight over the road and take the footpath across the field by the "No Flares" sign. There may be cows in this field so if you don't want to go through it, you can take a detour by turning left then right then left again.

At the T junction turn right and walk a few yards along the road, then turn right and take the footpath sign posted to Warren. Stay on the footpath through the wood which eventually takes you along the side of a house and back to the road.

Turn right at the road and then bear left after a few yards at the bend and take the footpath to the church.  Walk through the churchyard of All Saints and then through a couple of kissings gates, across a field towards the metal green gate. Turn left and then right onto the road.

Turn left at the T Junction in front of the cottages in Haxton and continue along the pavement before turning right onto the footpath sign posted to "Choulston". This path is very narrow and overgrown when we walked it but it was passable, long trousers recommend.  Turn right at the end then left at the next T junction.

Continue along the footpath up the hill, when the path appears to split we took the upper path but it may be possible to take the lower path and walk past the lake, but we didn't try it.

The path brings you out by the Netheravon Station Gymnasium where you turn right and walk down the road and bear right at the Choulston Farm and walk over the road bridge over the River Avon and back to the start of the walk.
