Tara's Tale!

I loved this walk, dogs can run off their leads all the way around except the last little bit when you have to walk along a quiet country lane. The walk takes you across open farmland with views of St Mary's church throughout it, if your owners stop to admire it take the opportunity for a quick swim in the river! Start Point

This Trail starts by the bridges in Hannington Wick village.
From the A419 north take the B4019 towards Highworth. Turn left at the Freke Arms public house at Swanborough. Follow this road to Hannington, then turn right up Nell Hill to Hannington Wick. Park in lay by on the left just past the two bridges.  (see map)

Directions

Walk back along the road and over the 2 bridges, and the walk starts opposite Bridge Farmhouse at the Thames Path footpath sign

Go through gate, walk through the first field and through the hedge line about 50 yards ahead

In the next field turn right and walk round the edge of the field keeping the hedge line on your right as you walk alongside the stream

Pass the footbridge that you see on your right and cross over the stile ahead, continuing along the footpath

In the corner of the field cross over the stile and the Thames Path footbridge that takes you over the stream and continue along the footpath with the stream to your right

Cross over the next wooden foot bridge and continue along the footpath with the wider river on your right. In the distance you will see St Mary's Church at Kempsford

At the telegraph pole in the corner of the field turn 90 degrees left keeping the hedge line to your right and head towards Blackfords farm which you will see just ahead

At the Thames Path footpath sign, turn right and walk past the front of the farm house

A few yards up the path turn left at the footpath sign posted to Hannington Wick

At the end of this straight footpath turn 90 degrees left, do not cross through the trees into the next field but keep the stream/ ditch on your left

Go through the gate and over the stream into the field. Turn right and walk around the field turning left after approximately 100 yards and follow the broken hedge line on your right towards a wooden foot bridge in the corner of the field

When you get to the bridge don't cross it but turn left keep the tree line on your right until you get to the bridleway signpost. Turn right and through a metal gate

The walk should continue through the second metal gate ahead known as Watery Lane, but usually this lives up to it's name and is water logged so instead turn left, go through the next gate into the field and then immediately turn right and walk along the edge of the field towards the farm buildings

In the bottom corner of the field find your way through the shrubbery and back onto Watery Lane or walk between the 2 hay barns and through the farm to the main road

At the main road turn left and walk along it, round the bend over the 2 bridges and back to your car
