Tara's Tale!

This trail takes us through some of the peaceful countryside that surronds the Hannington Village. Hannington is a designated conservation area making this a beautiful setting for our trail. There is plenty of wildlife, rabbits, pheasants, butterflies and sheep, yes sheep! However, these can be avoided if you need to.

Start Point

From 'Queens Road' at eastern edge of the village by 'Hannington Hall' opposite the 30mph and Bridle way sign posts (see map)

Directions

1. From the road head down the track down the side off the big stone building to the kissing gate on the left just past the stone wall. It is quite likely that this and the next field will contain sheep. They can be avoided by following the 'Alternative Start' detailed below.

2. Go through the kissing gate and walk down the field keeping to the right edge to the to bottom.

3. Go through the kissing gate and continue ahead through the centre of this field to the bottom. (This may also contain sheep).

4. Cross over the wooden footbridge and through the gate into the field (crops) and head across the field bearing left towards the barn and the metal kissing gate

5. Cross the footbridge and through the kissing gate and head along the concrete track (Bridle way) which then turns into a grass track between the fields.

6. At the end of the grass track go through the gate and bear right following the Bridle way sign to Hannington Wick crossing through the gap in the hedge onto the ash path

7. Turn right on the track in the direction of Highworth (sign posted)

8. When you reach the bridge over the stream, bear right and take the footpath through the trees keeping the stream on your left.

9. After a short way when the path splits take the right hand Bridle way and stay on this track between trees for quite some distance to the next sign post. (warning this track will get very muddy in winter months and uneven in summer)

10. Turn left at the next sign post towards Hannington and up the hill.  Look out for rabbits and the maybe pause for a rest at the bench half way up and admire the views.

Turn right at the top and follow the track back to the start.

Alternative Start

2b. Continue past the kissing gate along the track passing the tennis courts, then turn right and walk down the hill.

At the bottom of Parson's Lane turn left at the Bridle way sign post in the direction of Hannington Wick.

After a short way pass through the wooden gate and then turn immediately right and go through the wooden gate and along the grass track Bridle way (sign posted).

At the end of the Bridle way turn left to reach the concrete track as detailed in step 5 above, now follow the main instruction
