Tara's Tale!

I really enjoyed this walk, it was quite simple. There was plenty of places to be let of the lead but at the end of the walk you need to walk through a paddock with horses so will need to be on the lead for that bit.  There was some nice countryside to explore and quite a bit of the walk was under shade.

Fernham is a picturesque little Vale village with views of Uffington White Horse. The village is about three miles south of Faringdon and about six miles east of Shrivenham on the B4508.

Apparently Fernham had at one time three general stores and various other shops and businesses. So clearly it used to be a thriving busy community. Now it gives the impression of being a sleepy little village with several attractive and quaint cottages and an equally attractive little church. The peace and quiet is probably only disturbed by the traffic as it winds its way through the village along the High Street.  More Information.

We parked the car opposite the Woodman Inn then walked a short way down Chapel Lane before taking the footpath leading off to the left, between some garages and up the hill to a stile towards Celia's copse and over Furze Hill passing the paddocks on the right.

We continued along the path between the trees then turned right and followed the path that skirted the edge of the wood.

At the corner of the wood where other paths connected we turned right again and followed it south until we reached a very large paddock with several big gates.  We followed the footpath diagonally through the paddock, through the gate between the fields and towards the building and over the stile back into Chapel Lane.
