Tara's Tale!

You'll need to be kept on your lead for a short way at the start of the walk and again mid way because of a few sheep, but otherwise the walk is across crop land so you can run about freely. This is a nice walk, slightly longer than others listed across open farm land, watch out for the pheasants that may fly out of the crops

Start Point

At junction 15 of the M4, take the A346 towards Chiseldon turn left just after the Esso garage sign posted HGV testing station. after 1.2 miles turn down the lane to Draycot House and Farm.  Park on the right by the metal gate and footpath sign which is the start point for this trail
(see map)

Directions

From the foot path sign, cross over the stile and walk across the field to right hand corner where you will come to a stile. Go over the style and the stone footbridge to the lane where you turn right and walk down the lane.

Tara's Note: Stay on your lead for this leg because of the sheep!

At Draycott Farm follow the bridleway sign to "The Ridgeway" taking you past a hay barn on your left

Continue through the wide metal gates and into the open field ahead following the blue public bridleway arrow

Walk around the edge of the field along the wide bridleway track keeping the tree line on your right.  Stay on the track as it bears round to the right

Walk across the next track that you come to and into the field ahead. Follow the public footpath sign across the field heading slightly left towards a clump of trees (if you look in the distance you will see a farm building)

Cross over the stile and turn right. After about 15 yards cross over the next stile. Keeping the hedge line on your right side walk straight ahead to the corner of the field to another stile

Cross over the stile and bear left into the next field and with the tree line to your right continue straight ahead. (note: the footpaths split here don't take the right hand path by mistake)

When you come to a gap in the hedge line the foot path switches into the right hand field and continues in the same direction but now with the hedge line on your left side

Turn right at the hedge line at the end of this field and walk straight ahead still with the hedge line on your left. In the corner walk through the hedge line and turn right on to the bridleway and the hedge line now on your right, through the gate and the next field

Go through the iron gate and along the Millennium Bridleway straight ahead towards the white farm building

Tara's Note: Towards the bottom of the field there is an enclosed paddock that may have sheep in it so back on your lead for this bit

At the lane turn right and walk past the white cottages known as Buff Cottages and onto the "Old Ridgeway" track

When you get to the footpath sign a short way along the track, turn left into the field and walk straight ahead with the trees to your right.

At the bottom of the field bear right through the gate then left to join the footpath that you came along at the start of the walk. Walk through the double gates and past the hay barn on your right.

Walk up the lane to the left where the lanes fork and back to the start point
