Tara's Tale!

Apart from the cattle in the field at the start the only other livestock to look out for are the deer! We also saw a llama in a field but that's another story! This trail scores well for being off the beaten track, wildlife and splendid views. On the other hand there are cattle in the first field, and some of the paths are across ploughed fields making them uneven and may be muddy in winter.

Start Point

From the A 419 take the turning for Broad Blunsdon, drive through the village to the end of the High Street at the church, turn right into Burytown Lane and park in the lay-by on left by cemetery
(see map)

Directions

1: Walk up the lane to the end. Go through the kissing gate and then through second kissing gate on left into the field (warning, cattle in field). Walk across the field towards the footpath signpost on the ridge of the hill. Enjoy splendid views here!

2: Follow the footpath down the hill towards the bottom right hand corner

3: Go over the stile, keep the tree line to your right hand side and walk along the edge of the field

4: Cross through the broken tree line onto a grassy track, at the metal gate where the hedge line breaks turn right and immediately left along the grassy path keeping hedge line to left

5: Go through the metal gate and walk around the right hand edge of field taking you past farm buildings on the right

6: At bottom right hand corner, cross through the gap in hedge line onto a gravel bridleway and turn left

7; Keep on the gravel footpath for quite a distance until it bears left into a field. Follow the path into the field and turn left. Walk around the edge of the field turning right at first corner and then continuing straight ahead keeping the hedge line on the left. As you pass the copse watch out for deer!

8: At the hedge line T junction.  Turn right and look out for the wooden footbridge on left side after about 15 yards hidden amongst the trees.

Cross over the bridge, and continue straight ahead along edge of field, turn left at the end and walk to the stile just in front of fenced off area

9: Cross the stile, and turn left and walk around the fenced area to the next stile

10: Cross the stile on to concrete path, turn right walk to road

11: At the road turn left, walk up the hill past Malthouse Close, continue up Church Way, turn left past the church into Burytown Lane and walk back to the start
