Directions
1. leave the car park at the
far end by going through the gate
and follow the signs taking you
along the Ridge Way/Millennium Trail
towards the hill fort.
2. At the entrance to the hill
fort take the left hand path taking
you around the top and enjoy the
fabulous views over the gallops
below.
3. About half way around turn
left and rejoin the main path taking
you down the hill towards the road and out
of the Country Park.
4. Leave through the gate turning
right, then next right and walk
down a very long gravel track for
just over a mile until you reach
a road.
5. Turn right at the road, walk
along it for about 100 yards then
take the Bridleway on the left and
walk across the corn field to the
far right hand corner of the field.
As you get about half way across
the field head towards the old shed
type building. Update:: The Farmer
tends to plant corn across the path
so you may need to walk up the road
a bit and turn left down the access
track to the shooting club
6. Walk out of the field turning
left and along the track to the
end going past the shooting club
on the right.
7. At the end of the track turn
right at the sign post to "Barbury
Castle via Burderop Down" and
follow the Millennium Bridleway
up the hill and then bearing left.
Follow the Red topped Trail posts
until Trail turns back on itself
and heads up the hill
8. Turn almost 360 degrees and
head up the hill known as "Burderop
Down" going through a metal
gate at the bottom.
9. Go through the metal gate
at the top of the hill and walk
along the top edge of the field
- beware there are cattle in this
field. Walk past the Sarsen Stone
Memorial to Alfred
Williams, 1877 - 1930, poet
& prose writer.
10. Go through the gate and turn
left at the road and walk 100 yards
up the road back to the car park
- refreshments are available from
the farm just past the car park
entrance.
